YOU reported on April 20 the reactions of North Wiltshire MPs to Theresa May’s calling of a General Election. Michelle Donelan (Chippenham) hoped it would “give our Prime Minister complete authority to rule”. But in fact it has significantly weakened that authority.
Claire Perry (Devizes) was convinced the election was “absolutely in the best interests of the country”. But we’ve ended up with a hung Parliament, which no-one would claim is in the best interests of the country.
It would be interesting to know what these two MPs think about it all now; whether they regret their cheerleading at the start; and why they think Theresa May failed so spectacularly to win a big majority.
