IF due consideration is given to the financial pressures facing Wiltshire Council, it will seem absurd, to many of your readers, that the Chief Constable, Mike Veale, is permitted to continue his crusade against Ted Heath without being willing, for alleged security reasons, to provide any substantial evidence that this investigation is justified.
It is more than 50 years since these alleged offences took place and even if there is even a trace of truth in them, who is to be held to account?
Perhaps Mr Veale should consider resignation, without any consideration of compensation beyond his normal pension entitlement, and then use his time to prove his 120 per cent certainty. No doubt he could write a best-seller!
