Roman bus shelter
It was interesting to read of the search for Saxon remains in St Mary’s Street, but I wonder how many realise that there is an even older relic staring us in the face?
Remembering that ‘omnibus’ is a Latin declension meaning ‘for all’, there is a Roman bus shelter in the market place, which most mistakenly refer to as ‘The Butter Cross’.
