I WRITE in response to John Craig’s recent column – ‘NHS bills call shocked me’ (June 2).

I read with interest that the “the NHS and local authorities have still not got their act together to solve the problem of bed blocking”.

Delayed transfer of care, or ‘bed blocking’ as it is commonly referred to, is a national issue that our Health and Wellbeing Board and health partners have worked hard on locally and we are seeing some real improvements.

Over the past year or so the number of people who have been delayed in hospital has substantially reduced, with there being no people delayed at all in certain weeks.

This is bucking the national trend.

Our Health and Wellbeing Board will continue to work across the entire health community to ensure these improvements continue and that we work closely together to solve all the reasons for delayed discharges.

We’re confident if we continue our way of working, which has been successful in the last year, we will face that challenge head on.
