THERE is a traffic diversion in Malmesbury for people going via the A429 to Cirencester so as to avoid roadworks at Kemble for the next 13 days.
Instead of going via the B4014 to Tetbury and then the A433, which would be a three-mile diversion, or via the B4040 to Cricklade and then the A419 which would be a nine-mile diversion, the recommended diversion is an extra 58 miles!
The recommended diversion is to go south from Malmesbury via the A429, cross the M4, then south on the A350 to the A420.
At the A420 one should go west to reach the A46 at Pennsylvania.
Then north along the A46 to Stroud and then east along the A 419 to reach Cirencester, a total diversion of 58 miles. I have actually followed the marked diversion signs to confirm this crazy diversion. Why are the two shorter diversions not shown?
Further, when a notice road closed ahead is shown, surely it should indicate how far ahead!
Is it one mile, three miles or six miles?
At least this would help rather than hinder people to know where road closures are.
