WHILE mooring my narrowboat at Devizes Wharf at about 5pm on Friday, May 27 something startled my Bolognese dog Antonio and caused him to run off.

We searched all the usual walking places we use often at the Wharf with no success.

We asked many people, some of whom had seen him running around town and beyond the pond and the playing field at the other side of town.

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to the kind people of Devizes who looked out for him.

The ladies at Rangebourne pet shop who tried to catch him after he entered the shop.

The many motorists who somehow managed to avoid him.

The lady runner who looked for him on her way.

The three lovely paramedics who managed to shut him in the ambulance station after he ran in the door soaking wet and terrified, some three to four hours after he went missing.

Most of all though the wonderful lady called Carolyn who met me on White Horse Way with her own dog, and had seen Antonio an hour earlier and tried to catch him.

She took me to her car and drove me around the areas where he had been seen until I received a call from the ambulance station.

She then took me to pick him up, and then back to my boat.

I will never forget her kindness and that of everyone who offered to look for him and check on local Facebook for news of him.

What a great and heartwarming community Devizes has.

At this particular date and time the rain was torrential and we were a sorry sight on return to the boat.
