I WAS not surprised to read PR Crofton-Atkins’ letter concerning Claire Perry’s article and the air of desperation described although I didn’t see it, being in North West Wiltshire where we get our own MPs’ articles.

I did however attend a debate at St Mary’s School, Calne with Dr Julia Reid speaking for the leave campaign and Ms Perry speaking for the remain campaign. The gentleman hosting the debate said at the beginning he would ask them both to speak and then ask a series of questions and broaden it out to the audience to ask questions.

I was hoping for a good debate given that Dr Julia Reid has a vast wealth of experience of working within the EU as a researcher and, having a biochemistry degree and work experience at the RUH, would be able to answer my concerns about TTIP and the NHS.

Unfortunately, Claire Perry in my opinion brought the bear pit of the Westminster Commons debates with her. She tried to dominate the debate, never allowing Dr Reid to finish any of her replies, interrupting her in the most boorish of ways that seem to be drummed into Parliamentarians at Westminster. What hope of reasoned debate if this is typical of the remain group’s attitude?

I never did get a chance to ask about TTIPwhich is of concern to people from across the political divide.
