LIKE Anthony Bavin I have also been shocked by the mess left in the Salisbury Road recreation ground. There is indeed a dedicated team who clear up the mess and I have seen them working.
But is this the right thing to do? If the children (and it is mainly children) think they can throw their rubbish on the ground and other people will come and clear it up after them, what are they learning?
What about a group of school children going in each morning and picking up all the rubbish and putting it in the bins?
What about a group of volunteer wardens patrolling the place when it is busy and making sure rubbish is not thrown on the ground?
A dedicated team is fine, but it does not teach the next generation anything.
