MP Claire Perry repeats the same old quote about the new state pension in her column on April 7. She says: “From this week people reaching retirement age will receive the new State Pension of £155.65.” This is not only untrue but it continues the extremely poor government communications about which she has written to Baroness Altmann.

If Ms Perry was paying attention, she would be aware that many, many people will not receive this new, supposedly flat-rate pension.

Indeed, she should be aware that Baroness Altmann admitted in November 2015 that constant changes to the UK pension regime have led to widespread financial confusion and that only 37 per cent of people reaching state pension age in the next four years will qualify for the full new state pension.

That means that nearly two thirds of those retiring between now and 2020 will not receive the full state pension.

Ms Perry continues to mislead people on their entitlement. She really does need to get her facts straight.
