CONGRATULATIONS Mr Mayor on trying to get Chippenham cleaned up.
It is indeed a filthy town with litter strewn everywhere. It all starts as you leave the M4, the roundabout is littered with bottles, cans and cups. The three laybys are just as bad with overflowing bins. The roadside is equally as bad.
We have a generation of thoughtless, mindless slobs who just chuck their beer cans, McDonald’s wrappers, polystyrene boxes and coffee cups without a thought for the environment and anyone else.
Just cleaning up after them is not the complete solution. This lowlife needs to be found and punished. If we don’t take action the problem will never be resolved.
The council needs to write to every business, every school, every fast food outlet and pub and ask them to promote the message of “don’t drop litter”.
I hope every councillor will help co-ordinate the Mayor’s efforts on May 2 by leading the clean-up in their area.
