SO, the battle ground of Coate Bridge moves yet again, back to the High Court! On the one side is the community of Devizes who, on numerous occasions, has made plain its opposition, both as individuals and through its elected representatives, to the despoiling of the meadows by Coate Bridge for unnecessary housing. On the other hand stands a Scottish property developer with no investment or interest in the community it seeks to defy and whose sole interest is to make as much money as possible.

Why take this step when the planning appeal is imminent? This very action by these well-heeled men from the north demonstrates that they accept that the Neighbourhood Plan, so expertly and thoughtfully designed and rendering the need for their proposed development surplus to requirements, is likely to stand up in the coming appeal. So, ignoring the huge majority who voted in favour of its adoption and using the one thing they have in their favour, money, they seek to have the clear will of the people set aside in favour of their highly profitable project on what is clearly a technicality.

In so doing, they show themselves to be little better than those invaders of old who came to pillage and then return from whence they came. If the High Court finds that their argument is valid then all I can say is, the law, sir, is an ass!
