ON seeing the report ‘Museum ram now army mascot’ in the January 21 issue, I thought you might like to know the history of Raymond.
He was given to the National Trust museum barn in Avebury by Jim and Barbara Read who bred him at Church Farm, Stanton St Bernard where he spent his life grazing on Milk Hill.
Jim was then chairman of Kennet District Council. When it closed they asked if it might go to Lackham College museum who must have passed it to Chippenham Museum. How lovely that our well-travelled ram is now Tidworth Army Mascot and that he is not causing any trouble!
