ON the comments made by Sara Daw (letters, November 5) about the development application opposite Tesco in Marlborough.

I agree with all her comments, and would add a couple more. Whilst the councils passing or turning down the application look at it from their own perspective ( more houses + hotel = more money in their coffers, via rates etc), they should all venture out onto the routes from the villages that have to pass through this area. I live in Burbage, and find that this route has become unbelievable at times.

One day last week we spent just short of one hour getting into Marlborough, and traffic was backed up nearly to Leigh Hill.

I know roadworks were under way, and traffic lights were in use, but a similar effect will be caused if extra traffic has to merge in from this new development.

This will also add to the danger caused by pupils from St John’s School, who seem to congregate on this roundabout, picnicking and diving across to nearby Tesco.

I would urge the planning committee and the full-time officers who decide on this plan to spend some time there (not a few minutes, or a look at a plan) but spend some time there, when the commuters are on the move and they will have something to think about.
