LAST Sunday morning I was delighted to join members of the 10th Chippenham Scout group and staff from Chippenham McDonald's on a litter pick around Cepen Park South.

It once again highlighted the positive impact our volunteer groups have within the community, partnership working with local business and a willingness to see a cleaner community.

Wiltshire Council ensured that we had the appropriate pieces of equipment to undertake this work and I know as a local councillor the admiration and support they have for the many volunteer groups around the county.

As with any litter pick it is deeply disappointing to see so much litter deposited needlessly. This is not unique to just Chippenham but around the county and indeed sadly around the rest of the UK.

We all need to continue to send out the message that the dropping of litter is irresponsible and that as a community we need to look at the many different ways litter can be disposed of properly rather than ending up on the side of the road or in the hedge.

Finally I would like to thank all the people who took part and helped in this community project.
