AS a result of publishing my letter about litter in Devizes on October 1, I am pleased to say there has been a noticeable improvement of the cleansing of pavements in central Devizes.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said regarding the weeds and overgrown bushes in the alleyways.
Surely it should be possible for Wiltshire Council, in co-operation with appropriate bodies, to engage unemployed job seekers for this purpose. The usual excuse is lack of money to provide supervision. Such supervision could be provided by suitable older job seekers with the inducement of a little extra money.
Is it not time for local authorities to endeavour to provide such a service which would be encourage civic pride?
