I am writing with regard to the Eating Out review published in the Gazette on September 24 about The Outside Chance pub at Manton, headed ‘Jockeys’ pub fails to whip up excitement’.

There are a few facts which you have totally wrong. Guy Sangster is not an owner of the pub and hasn’t been for nearly a year. There is only one small piece of ‘dark oak’ in the entire building and the ‘equestrian themed pictures’ are actually photographs of horses that have won against the odds, like 100/1 and greater.

Your reviewer complains about the wait for a coffee but it takes longer to make a latte than serve a pint, even in Costa.

And whoever said that my chef was tired?

Local pubs, as you are aware, are closing down everywhere. The idea should be to support your local pub or they will continue to die off. Why can’t you be constructive like Nigel Kerton used to be? There are plenty of very positive things to report, like how we support the local community.
