I write in praise of the Devizes Street Festival which took place over the Bank Holiday weekend.

In spite of the weather, the crowds turned out to enjoy the many varied performances that had been arranged and my thanks goes out to them all. Without the support of the public, such events will wither and die, and the community will be the worse for the loss.

DOCA are to be congratulated for their efforts on our behalf. While we enjoy the spectacle, they do all the hard work and our appreciation for their efforts should not go unspoken. Jo and her team always seem to be able to pull something very special out of the hat, reinforcing the reputation of Devizes as a place where good things happen.

I'm sure the confetti battle will have drawn the usual crowd, all of whom are happy to indulge in a spell of harmless anarchy. I also look forward to participating in the carnival parade on Saturday.

Long may our festivities continue.

Roger Giraud-Saunders, Mayor of Devizes.
