As a Corsham resident who was eagerly awaiting the return of the Poldark film crew I am bitterly disappointed to hear that they will not be returning.

Poldark has really put Corsham on the map, bringing visitors to the town who would normally only stop at Bath and Lacock.

A look in the visitors’ book at the hugely popular Poldark Photographic Exhibition in the Tourist Information Centre in Corsham High Street reveals that people are visiting from all over the world.

Poldark merchandise from two outlets in the town centre is flying off the shelves.

Corsham Town Council has a rather short memory when it states that complaints were not an issue during the filming last year as a look at the article in the Gazette & Herald on May 7, 2014 proves that there were issues.

If it transpires that opposition to the filming played a part in the decision of the production company not to return then I feel very sorry for the businesses in Corsham High Street who put up with a short period of inconvenience knowing that any disruption would benefit the town in the future.

Let us hope that, should Corsham be considered as a backdrop for the filming of Dr Who that we welcome them with open arms as our small towns need all the footfall they can attract and I am very worried for the future of Corsham with so many shops closing.
