It would appear that the green label which should be stuck onto the lids of the garden waste bins will not stay when exposed to our English climate. The response from Wiltshire Council is when it falls off to contact them and they will send out a replacement. Sounds good but how much is this going to cost?
Allowing for admin, postage and of course the stick-on label, a cost of £1.25 would seem reasonable. With the 48,000 properties that have taken on the green waste collection, the initial cost may have been £60,000.
Our collection started June 16. Seven days later it was confirmed that almost 1,400 been replaced because of an adhesive problem. One week on it is noted they are receiving hundreds of calls.
No one can forecast the number of replacements needed. But 1,400 (based on the first week) wouldn’t be unreasonable with a price tag of £1,750 per week. But as we know the labels are useless, who knows the true cost per week for the next 52 weeks! Why not cut losses now, replace with a simple tie-on piece of plastic, and save us all tens of thousands of pounds.
