Whilst visiting Devizes last Saturday, as we do regularly, I was unfortunate to see a female cyclist riding along a busy road with a black and white Staffordshire bull terrier on a lead running alongside her.
Not only is this not good for the dog but a danger to motorists in a busy street and then to pedestrians when she mounted the pavement! The cyclist was wearing a cycle helmet.
I have quite a lot of knowledge with regard to Staffies and running like that is not good for them as they are prone to arthritis in later life.
I think it should be an offence to have a dog running alongside a bicycle anyway. A dog likes to sniff and do what comes naturally as and when and it’s also dangerous.
By all means go cycling and then take the dog for a walk.
