I always look forward to reading Don Jones’ contribution in My Word and I know that he likes to be controversial. However, I have to take issue with him on his comments last week about the Trust for Devizes.
I have been a trust committee member for the last five years and have yet to come across any issues on which the trust has adopted a “chocolate box conservatism”.
Indeed, I worry sometimes that our members will accuse us of being too involved in the wider issues affecting the town and not sufficiently concerned about the “preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest” which other civic trusts seem to concentrate on.
I agree with Don that attitudes in Devizes can sometimes seem very conservative but that is an entirely different subject and not one for which the Trust of Devizes can be blamed.
I invite him to take a look at our website http://www.trustfordevizes.info/news to find out exactly what issues we are currently dealing with – air pollution, the validity of traffic forecasts, the car parking debate and so on.
Come on Don, time to move on!
