Reading three of the letters in the Gazette & Herald, on June 18, I was reminded that we have, in the 21st century, the right to be aware of issues that will affect our health, and the health of our environment.

Tony Sedgwick (Add to the pollution debate), quite rightly was concerned about air pollution in Devizes, and wanted changes. Elizabeth Tucker (Scrap trade deal) warned MEPs of the secretively negotiated Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which would effectively stop any group, or government putting obstacles (including environmental and health concerns), in their way, if these concerns would stand in the way of multinational companies’ profits.

Michael Weeks (Parade was fantastic) reminded us about the celebrations surrounding the anniversary of the signing of the most important historical document in British history – the Magna Carta – which made it possible for the people to know what freedom was about. Something that from time to time we need to be reminded of; that we are the ones who elect people to do our bidding.
