I THINK the owner of Wiltshire Fencing doth protest too much. The sign was placed on land they do not own, without permission and, whilst not obstructing traffic at the junction, it may distract passing motorists. Our land at Black Dog is in the background of the picture. The land had a sign on it advertising a’Beckett’s for more than 20 years but we were not permitted to continue with it by Wiltshire Council. The sign shown in the shot is an election poster which will be gone by May 8 and is permitted but only on a temporary basis.
If, as the owner suggests, they have made a big investment in their new retail business, perhaps ensuring their advertising complied with the law might have been a good use of marketing expenditure.
