Has the recent violence against media cartoonists and others really been an attack on free speech? Or have certain sections of the European press really not acted respectfully enough and actually been unnecessarily provocative?

The terrorists are in no position to claim the high moral ground. They say they are motivated by loyalty to Allah. But whatever name we use for Him, the Almighty and Compassionate God does not need our weapons to defend His honour.

This topic was only one of several that were raised at the first meeting of the Devizes Inter Faith Group at the Quaker Meeting House.

We now plan to meet bi-monthly to discuss our various viewpoints, to challenge stereotypes and to consider how the experiences of each faith community can contribute to the common good, particularly in this area.

A small group as yet, we invite any other people of faith to come to our next meeting on Saturday, April 18 which will be at St Andrew’s Church, at 10am with coffee.
