The NHS is taking a lot of flak at the moment, but from my experience last week I can assure the public that the system worked very well in my case.
The ambulance crew of Brendan and Vicky, who came within 10 minutes of being directed by NHS Direct to take me to Swindon hospital, were kind, professional and concerned for my welfare. Despite it being Friday evening we were seen by a nurse after some time whilst I waited on a trolley (my problem was not urgent but I was in for investigation and diagnosis).
I did not feel pressurised by the emergency doctor who attended to me, and his analysis of my pain was confirmed after blood tests and an X-ray.
This letter is written to reassure the public and the press that the NHS, although under great pressure, is staffed by a dedicated team in A&E and I am extremely grateful for those hard-pressed staff who are running our National Health Service.
