Having read with interest about The Range over recent weeks and having visited the exhibition in the Neeld Hall in Chippenham, I think that The Range development will be a good thing to happen.

This could result in other businesses coming to the area. The only snag is the NIMBYS who seem to be getting a lot more publicity for the ‘no’ campaign.

There is also a large ‘yes’ campaign being conducted in favour of the proposed development, which doesn’t get so much publicity. All the landscaping will absorb most of the noise from the development but let us not forget that there is a possibility that the A350 is being made into a dual carriageway down to the Lackham College junction.

This will increase the amount of traffic and noise on the road around the proposed site so, to my way of thinking, all of the no reasons sound like Nimby rhetoric, including the impact on the town centre.

There are only one or two shops that will be affected and their prices are already competitive to The Range so I don’t see people who are in the High Street shopping changing their shopping habits.

Let’s hope that the strategic development management team pass this development as there is, I am told, only the one chance for this to be passed. There will be no appeals if it is turned down, just a move to another area along with the proposed employment which is much needed in Chippenham.
