It was good when the Dauntsey Lock railway bridge reopened, but it seems so narrow. This is an opportunity to widen them, to allow a pavement, by at least ten feet, it may not even cost more.
On important roads, where possible, the new bridges should be built next to the old ones, so the roads would only need to be closed for one night, to realign the road, as the motorway builders did. Most road users don’t use the railways, so they have nothing to gain from this work.
Back to the Dauntsey banks road, this is problematic and expensive to maintain. It’s a pity the roads over the Lyneham airfield couldn’t be reopened.
