Why, oh why, are young people aged 17 allowed to pass a test and drive a ‘killing machine’ that is a car? The age for a driving licence should be 21. If younger, like a motorcyclist, drivers should work up to more powerful machines.
I am talking from experience of so-called young drivers, many ‘road racers’, having had one live next door to us.
He passed his test at 17 and he and his mates became ‘road racers’ and we were actually cut up by them at 11pm one night. It was just fortunate for them, and us, that nothing was coming around the bend the other way.
He is now out of his teens and seems to be more aware of life.
Only yesterday a car driven by a youngster tailgated each car, overtook each car, sometimes two or three.
They have no thought for other road users and probably are not used to driving with three or more passengers.
