Ok, so a Sainsbury’s Local in the sorting office will be a bonus to Chippenham, as a new store opening is good news, but what thought has been given to the entrance/exit to the store?

I can see chaos as cars will want to turn right across the traffic coming up from the town, blocking the traffic coming down from Monkton Park, plus will it suffer like Tesco does when people park on the yellow lines and ‘pop in’ quickly to get their shopping.

With the new college building being built, causing more traffic to enter the estate, how much longer before it jams completely?

Most people in Monkton Park realise there are two no go times now: when the estate fills up in the morning and empties at night and it is pointless to try and get in/out  in a reasonable time due to the amount of cars.

I do not know of anywhere else in the country with only one road in and out (and no emergency back-up in place) with this crazy situation.

To put it in perspective, Monkton Park has the Olympiad, the museum, Wiltshire College (now being greatly extended), British Telecom, the railway station with a huge amount of buses daily, three main car parks (four if you include the college), Monkton Park itself, two churches, crazy golf, two tyre firms and an increase of over one third in houses in last few years plus other various businesses,  all supplied by one road.

Isn’t it time we all stood up and said sorry, we are full. Of course for anyone not living in Monkton Park this is not so important but if Station Hill blocks up there is a knock-on effect for the rest of the town as traffic queues down New Road and up from the High Street.
