On Thursday, October 30 my family and I took the train up to London to see the poppies at the Tower of London.

Unfortunately, whilst we were away, our young kitten Leo decided to cross the road in Hardenhuish Lane in Chippenham and was unfortunately killed. Apparently, all the cars were driving around him lying in the road.

We are very grateful to a very kind lady who stopped to move him to the grass verge and as a local resident, immediately went home, got a box to put him in and knocked on the houses nearby where we live to find his owner.

Our friend was house sitting, and the lady told him about Leo’s very sad accident. She did not leave her name but we would like to publicly thank her for her very thoughtful act of kindness and to make contact.

We really do miss him bitterly and believe he did not suffer.

Living at the top of Hardenhuish Lane for the last 13 years, we have had to put up with all kinds of vehicles driving past at great speeds, at all times of the day and night.

I cannot believe that the person who ran Leo over did not know they had done so. I would like to urge people driving up and down our road to observe the 30mph speed limit, and be thoughtful of local residents and pets potentially crossing the road.

There are two schools in Hardenhuish Lane with many thousands of pupils, so please also think of their safety by slowing down.

Dr Paul Copson, Chippenham.
