With reference to my letter published in last week’s Gazette & Herald (‘Lines are a blow to road safety’), I regret that I neglected to praise the achievement of such an extensive resurfacing project, conducted during the night – in not entirely benign weather – and completed within close to the advised period. All this at a time of financial stringency.
Also, my perception of the quality of surface finish may well not have taken due account of these circumstances and possibly of different standards and materials than applied in earlier times and I did not mean to be critical of those conducting the work, whose efforts I applaud unreservedly.
I will not be taking up the offer of cinema tickets since I did not deserve to be ‘Letter of the week’, and would like to donate them to a more worthy recipient of your choice.
Brian W Smith, Devizes.
