Further to your article last week, I am writing regarding the future of one of Corsham’s most significant and best-loved buildings.
For many years the Mansion House has suffered from neglect and under-investment, and I believe we are reaching a critical point in its story. The future of the Mansion House is hanging in the balance following Wiltshire Council’s last- minute decision to halt or postpone the sale after a thorough and lengthy tendering process.
According to Wiltshire Council’s strategic economic plan, Corsham will receive £500 million of investment over 10 years from the private sector, starting next April.
News of funding of this magnitude for the town is really exciting, and we look forward to hearing more from the council over the coming weeks about who these investors are, how the money will be spent and whether some of it may be used to reinstate the Mansion House.
We very much hope that Wiltshire Council will be swift in its action. In our opinion procrastination over its future will only cost the taxpayer money whilst Corsham’s Mansion House falls further into disrepair. We are willing to help in whatever way we can to ensure that this doesn’t happen.
