Every time I drive from Marlborough to Devizes on the A361 I am impressed by the housing development on the outskirts of the town that has been created out of what I presume were former army barracks.

That is until I raise my eyes skywards.

On the main tower building, that is both impressive and imposing, there lies at the top a hideous grey monstrosity that is totally out of keeping with the red brickwork and overall harmonious aspect of the tower.

I cannot believe that such an appendage is intentional; that the planners would have agreed, even condoned, an eyesore such as this which makes mockery of our military heritage.

But maybe I am jumping the gun. Perhaps it is the site foreman’s office, in which case can we hope for its removal in the very near future?
