I was fascinated by the headline last week that “Bulldozing Chippenham church hall ‘good for community’” which, when you read the article, is exactly what is said.

As the Rev Simon Dunn explained, St Paul’s Church has embarked on an exciting project to move from two old expired buildings, in the church and the church hall, to create one, fit for purpose in the 21st century, offering all the facilities currently available but within the one building. He continued, saying: “Plans for the church include a mezzanine floor to provide a hall, meeting rooms and offices. The church hopes to remove pews, creating a large space for groups, and build a downstairs kitchen.”

So your headline was right, Bulldozing Chippenham church hall is ‘good’ for the community as it will offer the community far better facilities than they currently have, still within a church-owned building, but merely different one!

I await to see what headline is dreamt up in a few years’ time when the Gazette & Herald reports on the opening of these new facilities.
