In the Letter of the Week (June 26), Peter Fletcher questions the length of time parking is allowed in the Market Place in Devizes. I am retired and live within seven minutes’ walk from there. I always go on foot to do my shopping, visit the bank etc.

I am unable to understand why people feel the need to park right outside premises they visit. Station Road car park is within a short distance, as is the Central car park. Perhaps there could be some short stay free places in those locations.

I have felt for some time that there should be a certain number of disabled parking spaces only in the Market Place and the remainder of the area to have seats and space for people to stroll, as is the case in a number of small market towns.

Everyone seems to manage on Thursday market day and when other events are taking place. So come on, people of Devizes and surrounding villages, please use the car parks nearby and walk a short distance. Exercise is good for you apparently.
