In reading the article regarding the closure of Trow Lane (Gazette & Herald, April 3) I wonder if I am the only person who, instead of celebrating, wanted to cry.

I live in Bradenstoke and run my own business from home.

As everyone will know this is tough as a working mum of two as childcare costs are high.

My children go to Dodford Farm Daycare, just on the other side of the bridge closure.

This is normally a five-minute journey but with the closure of the additional roads I now will have to drive an additional hour per day the children are at nursery.

This means I lose an hour of work, or have to pay for an hour of additional childcare.

As I work part-time the margins are small and it is not dramatic of me to say that the additional travel caused by the closures means my business may fold.

I fail to comprehend how the council can just close three roads with no reasonable alternative.

They are public roads and I pay enough road tax. I completely understand the concerns of the residents of Trow Lane and the other roads and have witnessed some very poor driving. However, shouldn’t local people with legitimate reasons not to be able to travel the 20-mile ridiculous diversion be exempt?

Couldn’t traffic-calming measures or speed cameras be introduced? A one-way system up one road and down the other?

I cannot overemphasise the effect of this on my life and I am sure I am not alone.

I simply cannot understand how I can be totally cut off from an area of Wiltshire and my business suffer without any help from the council.
