I climbed to the top of Bromham church spire on the afternoon of April 1, 1952, a couple of days after Dennis Rose (Gazette & Herald, April 3).
I was unaware that he had done so but I did it with permission from the steeple jack and it was strictly at my own risk.
I do not know if Ron Hinder witnessed my climb but another neighbour certainly did. Miss Esme Munroe took a photograph of me when I reached the top. The folly in my case was that I took this risk just two days before I was due to get married.
Fortunately I came down safely and was married two days later. Last week my wife Enid and I celebrated our 62nd anniversary .
