So the toilets at the Wharf and Station Road in Devizes have closed. That means that some on-street parking spaces have had to be designated for coaches.

Would it not have been simpler to leave the toilets and kept the on-street parking spaces for cars? At busy times, such as market days, these spaces can be very useful.

Mr Tony Aldridge says he has counted no less than seven empty spaces in New Park Street at peak times (Gazette, March 20), so he must have been there at a different peak time than I have.

Many times my husband has looked for a space there when the car parks were full and there hasn’t been a space anywhere.

It seems that priority is being given now to coach parties who only come to the town once in a while, so what about those of us who live in or around Devizes who are spending money in the town every week and using the various businesses?

It doesn’t seem to matter whether we can find a parking space, and if we can we have to pay twice as much for one hour as we pay at Trowbridge for two hours.

It would be good for the councillors to remember who they come around canvassing to for votes at election times. It is the local people, and not the ones who came in coaches from God knows where.
