I strongly believe in the value of community-based learning and think it is something that is often underestimated. I would like to highlight an excellent local example of this, the annual Science Fair, at the Wiltshire Music Centre, Bradford on Avon the other week when more than 500 visited.

I welecomed the coverage and support that both the Gazette & Herald and Wiltshire Times gave the fair.

However, I would like to stress the true value of the community working with schools to make learning more fun and interactive.

I volunteered at the fair, which was a huge success, involving more than 18 schools and 80 pupils.

This community-led project highlights what can be done both to support and also in conjunction with our excellent schools. It also proves the value of making learning accessible and fun. Our teachers understand this and it is important that we support them.

I loved volunteering and helping the children to make a hovercraft from paper plates. It was also a day for all the family.

The science fair was funded primarily by Wiltshire Conservative Council grants and aimed at all the family. I will continue to encourage more support for schools within the community with a focus of making learning innovative and fun.
