Like most parents I was interested to see the GCSE league tables that came out this week. Papers get a sneak preview of the league tables a few days before they can be published and I was a bit shocked to see Devizes School (where my 15-year-old daughter is a pupil) could only manage 38 per cent of its pupils passing five or more gcses at grade C or above when subjects included maths and English.

I went to the funeral today of Chris Carver, a stalwart of many Devizes organisations and one of those people who once met never forgotten.

I went to Sainsbury in Devizes today to do our usual weekly shop and after a few tours up and down the aisles I gave up looking for the Bovril and asked a helpful lady on the deli counter if she had any idea where it was kept.

I was sitting in the hairdressers yesterday - yes us journalists are always on call - when I got a message to say the stained glass window at St Andrew's Church in Long Street, Devizes, had crashed down during the high winds.
