Saints cruise into semi-finals

Youth football

Melksham Town Saints came out 6 - 2 victors in the quarter final of the Daniel Higgs Memorial Trophy against Melksham Town Robins at Christie Miller on Sunday. The two Melksham teams, who are both challenging for league titles in their respective divisions, produced an entertaining game on a boggy pitch. Saints opened the scoring in the third minute when Callum Demkiv scored into the bottom corner. Robins battled back well and more than held their own in the first half, however Saints went into a two goal lead when a slick passing move involving four Saints players resulted in Warren Rees slotting home. The Saints continued scoring in the second half when Sam Alexander's long range effort found its way into the bottom corner. The Robins responded when the lively Even Jewers scored with a looping header. A Rhys Kemish volley restored the Saints three goal advantage, before Chay Forester further increased the Saints lead with a fierce left foot drive. Warren Rees then broke down the right before smashing his fifteenth goal of the season, to make the final score 6-1.The Robins continued to press and scored a deserved second when Even Jewers broke clear to slot home his and Robins' second. Both sides can be pleased with their efforts and the large crowd enjoyed an entertaining derby.

FC Chippenham Youth took a 1-0 lead at the break in their home tie against Bradford Town Youth A. Chippenham carried on defending well throughout the second half and added two more to their tally to finish 3-0 winners. Jai Saca and Nathan Davis (2) scored for Chippenham.

Under 11's League Cup 09/02/08 Although Trowbridge Town Youth ran out 4-0 winners against Melksham Town Youth Blue the score line does flatter Trowbridge in what was a very close match between two good teams. Trowbridge could have been 2-0 down by half time if it hadn't have been for the woodwork and a fine save by Nathan Burrows in the Trowbridge goal, however, they did go in a goal up due to an excellent finish by Matthew Morris four minutes from the break. The second half saw Trowbridge take more control as they stepped their game up and were rewarded by a second goal when Morris followed in a shot which the keeper failed to hold to add his and Towns second. Town's third came when Liam Naylor found himself in space and tapped into an empty net after some good work down the right before Towns Joe Blais who was put through with only the keeper to beat for Trowbridge's fourth.

Robert Palmer gave home side White Horse Junior Flames the lead in their home tie against Melksham Park after Jake Brand took the ball past five opponents before supplying a great cross. Nathan Drew brought the scores level with ten minutes left on the watch making for a tense run down to the final whistle. The game could have gone either way but Palmer netted his second securing the Flames place in the semi's.

U12's Ron Boucher Memorial Trophy 10.02.08 Laverstock & Ford edged ahead in their home tie against Melksham Town Youth Blue to run out 4-3 winners. Laverstock saw goals from Creswell and Jackson (3).

The final score did not reflect how evenly matched the game between Westbury Youth and Larkhall Athletic was. Larkhall showed some good finishing from dead ball situations. Praise must go to both defences who played well. Larkhall were 2-1 up at half time with Josh Cartwright scoring for Westbury. Soon into the second half Larkhall went 3-1 up and converted a penalty to end the game 4-1. Harry Andrews, Thoe Ojolo and Joe Batterick (2) scored for Larkhall.

U13's Jack Goodenough Memorial Trophy 10.02.08 Amesbury Town came from two goals down to beat a good Chippenham side and reach the semi finals of the league cup competition. Despite Amesbury Town having the majority of the play in the opening spell the Chippenham side were always dangerous when they moved forward and were causing the Amesbury defence constant problems with their pace and direct play. The home side took the lead in the eight minute when Harry Griffin raced clear on the left before beating Tommy Smith in the visitor's goal from ten yards with a well placed shot. Amesbury Town just couldn't seem to find that killer final ball and Chippenham took advantage of Amesbury's frustration by doubling their lead after seventeen minutes. Griffin was again the main tormentor with a direct run of thirty yards that took him through Amesbury Town last line of defence and he beat Smith with a curling shot low into the far corner. When Amesbury Town did break through they found the Chippenham keeper in fine form. Just before the break he pulled off a wonderful save from Harry Beckley's close range shot, tipping the ball onto the cross bar. The ball, however, was only cleared as far as Jake Chambers who promptly curled the ball into the top corner of the net. With the sun on their backs in the second half Conor Harrington had moved back to partner the dependable Tyler Brockway at the heart of the defence with Finn Drury coming on to team up with Beckley up front. The home goalkeeper got down well to block Drury's close range effort following a Chambers cross shortly before Amesbury Town got back on level terms. Nathan Nightingale and Joey Barnwell combined well on the right before Beckley rifled home a low shot from just inside the area. Amesbury Town were now in a more confident mood and began to play the ball around with Beckley always a danger when given the ball. The winning goal came courtesy of Beckley after fifty seven minutes as Cameron Wishart laid the ball off to him and he turned and hit a strong shot into the far corner of the net despite the best attempts of the Chippenham custodian. The same player also came to the home side's rescue late in the game saving and blocking two more Beckley efforts.

Trowbridge Town Youth A ran out comfortable 7-0 winners against home side Melksham Town Youth Reds with goals from Nathan Cockran (2), Jake Paker (2), Sam Walker (2) and Luke Murden.

Bradford Town Youth ran out with just ten players and had to work hard against a determined Trowbridge Town Youth B team especially during the first half in order to find the back of the net and they did this through striker George White. The second half saw Bradford take control of the game and some good moves resulted in a super strike from Tom Wade into the top corner of the net. Charlie Clarke got his name on the score sheet after an assist from Nathan King to make it 3-0 Trowbridge then had a good spell and played some good football resulting in a great finish from Jack Noden. Bradford continued to keep control and booked their place in the semi finals. Final score 3-1 U14's Tim Kerr Memorial Trophy 10.02.08 A hat trick from Mel King and a single from Leigh Rogers gave Corsham FC a 4-1 win against Melksham Town Youth Blue.

FC Chippenham turned a 2-0 half time lead into a 4-0 final score against visitors Westbury Youth for their place in the next round. Jamie Waller (2), Jack Williamson and Craig Leonard scored for Chippenham.

Warminster Highbury took a 2-1 lead at the break in their away tie against Trowbridge Town Youth before going on to finish 3-1 winners. Damon Kay scored for Trowbridge.

The Ron & Edna Sales Under 15's Cup 10.02.08 Trowbridge Wanderers took a 2-0 half time lead against the run of play against AFC Corsham. Wanderers increased their lead to 3-0 before Sam Thomson put Corsham back in the tie with a great header. Ernie Piebst decreased the deficit further before the final whistle called time on their cup campaign. Adam Mercer, Jordan Pinder and Sam Clarke scored for Wanderers.

In a close game Jake Lyons and Lewis Burns gave Amesbury Juniors a 2-0 lead at the break against home side Castle Combe Colts. Mid way through the second half Combe pulled one back but failed to find the equaliser.

Ryan North, Chikiah Douglas and Jamie McDougal scored for Warminster Highbury against visitors Devizes Town Youth in their 3-0 victory.

Westbury Youth 2nds gave a great team performance to run out 4-0 winners at home against Bradford Town Youth Blue. Matthew Wheeble (3) and Flynn Precup scored for Westbury.

Draw For Round 3 Of U16's Barry Curtis Memorial Trophy 10.02.08 AFC Corsham and visitors Chippenham Town Youth played out an entertaining tie at Leafy Lane. Chippenham Took went 1-0 up but Corsham were quickly back level before taking the lead. Chippenham never gave up bringing the game level again before the interval. Chippenham regained the lead early in the second half before Corsham drew level sending the game into extra time. Both sides held out during extra time resulting in a penalty shootout which saw Chippenham hold their nerve for a place in the final four. James Dark and Lee Marshall (2) scored for Corsham with Tom Hulbert (2) and Dan Webb replying for Chippenham.

Amesbury Juniors and Warminster United Youth battled out a very even game which saw Amesbury victorious in extra time with a 3-2 win. Beau Blakeman scored both goals for Warminster.

The draw placed Blue Divisions Worton & Cheverel Yellow against fellow club mates and Red Divisions Worton & Cheverel Black. The first half saw both sides make ground and the Yelllow's edge ahead at 2-1. After the break the Yellows controlled large parts of the game to run out eventual 4-1 winners. The Yellow's saw goals from Jamie Wallen (2), Jake Water and an own goal with Jake Roberts scoring the Blacks goal from the penalty mark.

Draw For Preliminary Round Of U17's/18's League Cup 10.02.08 Josh Lewis gave home side Warminster Highbury the lead in their tie against Marlborough Town. Town drew level before Joe Finch regained the lead for Highbury. Sam Sweetman secured a 3-1 victory for Highbury in the second half following a very close and fair game.
