Heavy rain causes major disruption
Under 10's Blue Division:
Another week of rain led to the cancellation of even more games disrupting the programme for the third successive week. With more rain forecast for the week ahead the cancellation of more games is highly likely. However, the efforts of many teams to get their games on is to be highly commended.
Trowbridge Town Youth A and Bradford Town Youth A was a lively game from the start with Harry Fordred of Bradford capitalising on a Trowbridge error to volley the ball into the back of the net early in the game. Trowbridge kept the pressure on creating chances for themselves until Ollie Dew equalised. Bradford then attacked hard but Trowbridge rallied under the pressure keeping Bradford goalkeeper James Nesbit - Long very busy.
The second half was scrappy with Trowbridge again putting Nesbit - Long to the test. Bradford also created chances calling on Trowbridge keeper Toby Murden to pull out all the stops. The game was deadlocked at 1-1 until the last seconds when Trowbridge's Sam Brake shot a fantastic half way line volley that just dipped under the bar for a final score of 2-1 to Trowbridge. The game was refereed well by Karl Buchanan.

Leafy Lane at Corsham survived the elements to provide a good surface for the match between AFC Corsham Leopards and FC Chippenham Youth. The Leopards started the match determined to make up for their poor showing the previous week and took the lead through Nathan Coupland in under ten seconds. The Leopards continued to press and had a number of opportunities to increase the score but could not put the ball in the net. Chippenham came into the game with a number of attacks on the break and were rewarded with an equaliser just before half time.
The second half saw the Leopards putting together some excellent passing moves which turned their possession into goals. Leading scorer Jay Painter added two goals to the Leopards tally with Joe Triki blasting in the fourth through a narrow gap between the Chippenham keeper's hand and the post. Patrick Cunningham sealed an impressive performance with some close control and a shot across the keeper into the far corner for a 5-1 final score.

On a miserable day for football Bradford Town Blue and White Horse Juniors Flames both played their part in a spirited match. On a very boggy pitch the Amesbury Blues put together a tremendous team performance to sweep past a plucky Corsham side and maintain their position at the top of the table. Connor Harrington replaced the absent Adam Flint at the heart of the defence to form a new central defensive partnership with skipper Tyler Brockway. Despite having most of the play the Blues had to wait until the twentieth minute before opening the scoring. The Corsham keeper did well to get down to a strong Cameron Wishart shot but couldn't keep hold of the ball and Harry Beckley was on hand to tap in the rebound from close range. Joey Barnwell nearly doubled the lead but his close range header hit the post. Beckley then played a great ball to Wishart who made no mistake with a hard angled strike into the far corner to give the Blues a two goal lead. At the other end Blues keeper Tom Hollinworth pulled off a superb double stop to maintain their advantage and keep their lead at the break. Shortly after the restart the Blues won a penalty when Beckley was brought down but substitute keeper Nicholas Chandler made a tremendous full length save to deny Beckley's spot kick. However within two minutes Beckley managed to get the ball in the net when he ran down the right side and squeezed his shot between Chandler and his near post. The fourth goal came after fifty minutes when Beckley completed his hat trick turning in the box to convert Jake Chambers cross. The Blues back four were all playing well with Brockway and Harrington commanding the middle and Conor West and Rory Johnstone looking strong on the flanks and pushing forward at every opportunity. On the hour mark Beckley cut in from the left and his low cross was turned into his own net by a Corsham defender to give the Blues a fifth goal and two minutes later they scored a sixth. Barnwell's strike from the edge of the box was too much for Chandler to hold and Wishart nipped in to tuck the ball away into the corner. The game was refereed well by Mick Nightingale from Bulford.

Castle Combe Colts played their first game and recorded their first win of 2008 following their 4-2 win against Melksham Park in an excellent game played in very difficult conditions on a heavy pitch.
Melksham started the brighter of the two teams and opened their account seven minutes into the first half after a mistake from the Combe defence and neatly slotted past the Combe keeper. Combe had a wakeup call and started to play some nice passing football which paid off in sixteenth minute after a strike from debutant Tom Golding which took a wicked deflection past the Melksham keeper.
Combe attacked from the re start and striker Matt Stevens lovely strike into the top left corner after seventeen minutes made it 2-1. Both sides were evenly matched and after another mix up between the Combe keeper and the defence, Melksham took full advantage and slotted home in twenty-seventh minute. Combe needed to pick up the pace and attack which is exactly what they did and Matt Stevens with his second of the game thirty minutes in meant that Combe went into half time leading 3-2.
Once again, Combe attacked from the kick off and dominated the second half. However, with the Melksham Park keeper in dominant form Combe struggled to take advantage with save after save being made. After thirty minutes of the second half Combe took a quick throw near the Melksham penalty area and a lovely glancing header by Luke Simpkins took the game beyond Melksham's reach. Both sides were a credit to themselves and the league.

In difficult, windy conditions and on a sticky pitch the defences of both Bath City Youth and Bradford Town Youth should be praised. Bradford's late first-half goal by Simon Lomas followed a goal-mouth scramble. Bath's equaliser was well finished by Kyle Norris. Both teams had their chances to win the game but a draw seemed a fair result.
