Bromham run riot
Under 13's Green Division:
The bottom of the table clash between home side Bromham and Bradford Town saw Bromham come out on top after a closely fought first half. An even start to the game saw both sides cancel each other out leading to a 2-2 score line. After the break Bromham stepped up a gear scoring a further six to just two replies finishing 8-4 winners. Bromham saw hat tricks from Jordan Stafford and James House with Craig Askew adding two to their tally.
Under 9's league cup
The first ten minutes were very even with both Westbury Lions and Melksham Park A earning a corner. Westbury broke the ice with a goal in the thirteenth minute. This awakened Melksham Park and they increased pressure until a shot from Jamie was parried by the Westbury goalie. George Hiscock picked up the rebound and made no mistake with his finish. After half time Westbury put the pressure back on and deservedly took the lead again. Back came Melksham Park and a screamer from Nathan Trueman left Westbury's keeper no chance and ending normal time level at 2-2.
Both halves of extra time were very even with Thomas Mack doing some intricate dribbling but to no avail. The penalty shootout saw both sides even at 4-4 before Westbury missed leaving Tommy Ireland to seal a victory for Park. Most spectators covered their eyes as Ireland strode up for Melksham Park and calmly slotted the ball in the goal. A shame that one of two such even teams should lose this way.
On a wet and windy day and on a very muddy pitch, Dilton, playing with the wind started extremely strongly putting Melksham Park B under pressure. After five minutes Dilton made the most of a mistake in the Park defence and opened the scoring through Tom Hunt. This was a very good game and two very evenly matched teams played some entertaining football despite the conditions. Just before half time a break by Melksham lead to a fantastic equalizer from Jack Laundon, a thumping shot into the top corner 1-1.
The second half was just as close with some excellent performances from Park's Liam Reed, Jay Athay, Ayrton Bramley and Steven Brenchley in goal keeping the scores level. Park also looked good going forward but even with great work from Jack Laundon, Jordan Earley Tia Jones and Harry Church we could not find the winning goal so the game moved into extra time.
More of the same in extra time with both teams playing well but good work from both keepers kept the score level so we had to face the lottery of a penalty shootout. Unfortunately though despite penalty goals from Jay Athay and Tai Jones and another save from Steven Brenchley, Dilton had the luck and won the shootout 3-2. Man of the match awarded to Steven Brenchley. This was the last game for Jack Laundon before he leaves the area. He has had a fantastic season for Park scoring an amazing 37 goals in 12 matches, a brilliant effort.
Close exciting game which Corsham snatched with a goal towards the end of the second half to win 1_0. Derry Hill were unable to convert their chances.
The 2nd Round Cup match between Bradford Town Youth A and Melksham Town Youth Saints was full of excitement and drama. After Robert Crudge slotted home Melksham's opening goal, Bradford's Jack Stacy confidently volleyed home the equaliser from a good cross from the right. Melksham came straight back to regain the lead after some superb individual skill from Matthew Tanner. Bradford dug deep with some good battling performances from Jacob Beecham, Ben Wade, Henry Buckley and Jonathan Salter. Tom Hughes in goal put in some fine saves. As the first half wore on Bradford were in the ascendancy and a goal from Angus Watts made it 2-2 at half time.
With wind behind them in the second period, Angus Watts scored again to give Bradford the advantage. Melksham showed some grit and determination to pull back with two good goals from Matthew Tanner and Edward Bew. With the help of Archie Sidwell, Ollie Coghlan rescued things for Bradford with a superb strike to bring the score to 4-4 at full time. Bradford streamed forward relentlessly with Melksham hanging on by a thread - but couldn't make the advantage count. With a minute to go before penalties, Melksham's Tom Thompson drove through Bradford's defence and scored leaving Bradford devastated.
Under 11's cup
Warminster Highbury ran out 4-1 winners at home to Bradford Town Youth to book their place in the last eight, Charlie Walton and Martyn Marsh scored for Highbury.
White Horse Flames took a two goal lead through Tom and Ryan in the first half against Derry Hill only to be pegged back by a Kieran Glennon goal to lead 2-1 at half time. In the second half Derry Hill levelled through a William Blakeney goal to send the game into extra time where White Horse eventually edged home 4-2 with further goals from Jake and Adam. Bradley was named the Flames man of the match.
UNDER 12'S Ron Boucher Memorial Trophy
Marshfield Juniors bowed out of this season competition after visitors Laverstock and Ford ran out 6-1 winners. Jeremy Bond scored for Marshfield.
Castle Combe Colts must have thought they had the game in the bag at 5-2 but AFC Corsham pulled off a great come back to finish 8-6 winners. Corsham saw goals from Zac Carson (2), Alfie Cross (2), Aaron Ward Baptiste, David Mullins and Jordan Dick with Sam Hall (2), Liam Wootten (2), Alde Evans and James Wyllie replying for Combe.
Four goals from Joe Battercake helped home side Larkhall Athletic to a 6-3 victory against Chippenham Town Youth. Jordan Jenkins (2) also scored for Larkhall.
U13 's Jack Goodenough Memorial Trophy
After taking a 2 goal lead through an own goal and a Lawry Brown effort Bromham came back strongly at the start of the second half to take an 8-2 lead through goals from Jordan Stafford(3), James Grouse (3) and Craig Askew. A Lewis Baden free kick and a Cameron Dewar effort ensured Bradford finished strongly, but Bromham fully deserved their win in a match played in a good spirit, in difficult conditions and well refereed by Simon Crangle.
This was without doubt a true cup match with all the thrills and spills along with the bad weather thrown in for good measure. Bradford opened the scoring through midfielder Harry Butler with a quality strike but visitors Westbury were quick to reply and levelled the score line. The away side gave Bradford a wakeup call when a defensive error gave them a 2-1 lead at half time. The second half was much like the first with both sides battling hard in very difficult conditions but it was Bradford that made a comeback with a super effort from Duncan Burnside. The home side playing their best football of the match took the score line to 4-2 with a powerful strike from Paul Eaton and a great finish from George White. Westbury were not finished and their hard work paid off by scoring twice and taking the game into extra time. Within minutes of the first half Bradford were awarded a penalty and George White stepped up to find the back of the net. The second half of extra time saw White complete his hat trick but Westbury came back strongly to score once more and were unlucky not to take the game into a penalty shootout leaving a final score 6-5 to Bradford. Credit must go to both sides who never gave up for the duration of the match. Referee Oliver Ballinger controlled the game well. Kai Bingham (2), Jack Hayward, Luke Booth and Joe English scored for Westbury.
Trowbridge Town Youth scored the only goal of a very thrilling game against AFC Calne to progress to the next round of the cup. Jack Noden floated a beautiful shot over the Calne keeper from outside of the box to set up a fantastic victory. All credit to both teams for a battling performance in wet and windy conditions.
When two teams with 100% records meet in a cup game something's got to give but Amesbury Town did not falter as they swept into the next round of the League Cup at home side Melksham Park's expense. The conditions were desperately bad with driving rain and hail and a swirling wind but both teams coped admirably as they tried to play football on the tight pitch. Harry Beckley opened the scoring for the visitors in the tenth minute when he reacted first to a left wing cross and managed to squeeze his shot in off the far post. Just three minutes later Nathan Nightingale scored with a superb half volley into the top corner of the net after a corner on the left was only partially cleared to the edge of the box. Despite the difficult slippery surface Amesbury gradually wore down their opponents and took command with the central defensive pairing of Adam Flint and Tyler Brockway ensuring that the Melksham threats were quickly dealt with. In the 18th minute the Blues scored, what can only be described as the goal of the season with an absolutely brilliant move which travelled the whole length of the pitch and culminated with Cameron Wishart scoring from inside of the Melksham area. No less than five players were involved in an intricate, swift, one touch passing move starting with Brockway and Connor Cutler at the back through to Connor Harrington and Jake Chambers in midfield and finished superbly by Wishart. If this was a great team goal, Beckley scored his 2nd goal after 28 minutes with a classic individual effort, turning on the edge of the box to curl a tremendous shot into the roof of the net. The second half didn't live up to the almost perfection played by the Blues in the first period as they battled against the strong wind. However Beckley completed his hat trick after 53 minutes, cutting in from the right to rifle his shot low past the Park goalkeeper. It was fitting that joint Blues man of the match Brockway bagged the sixth goal ten minutes from the end scoring from close range after a corner resulted in a goal mouth scramble. To their credit Melksham Park never gave up and scored a consolation goal four minutes from the end when a low shot from Tamin Ibrahim evaded keeper Tommy Smith in the slippery conditions.
UNDER 16'S Barry Curtis Memorial Trophy
In an exciting hard fought match two goals from Worton and Cheverell striker Tom Mason saw the home side victorious against Castle Combe. Early in the first half midfielders Jake Roberts and Ross Sweet combined well which led to a cross that Mason finished at the near post. Worton and Cheverell had numerous chances but good goalkeeping kept Castle Combe in the game, going in at half-time only one goal down. Castle Combe started strongly at the start of the second half and after some sustained pressure were awarded a penalty. Castle Combe's Tom Bull kept his nerve and scored for the visitor's, despite having to retake the kick after the first attempt was ruled out for encroachment. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams creating chances, but eventually Mason scored the winner for Worton and Cheverell after he latched onto a through ball and beat the Castle Combe goalkeeper low into the corner. Both teams played with great spirit in a game that showed what is best about Under 16 football.
