There were cheers and tears at Melksham Town Football Club on Saturday and Sunday as the youngsters of the Mid-Wilts Youth League battle dit out in their league cup finals.
Under 9's Red Division:
AFC Calne ran out 5-1 winners at home to Westbury Youth with goals from Eddie Summers (3), Andrew Cranston and Harry Stewart. Ewan Whelan replied for Westbury.
Under 10's Blue Division:
Another week of rain led to the cancellation of even more games disrupting the programme for the third successive week. With more rain forecast for the week ahead the cancellation of more games is highly likely. However, the efforts of many teams to get their games on is to be highly commended.
Under 10's Blue Division:
In a fast and furious match Trowbridge Town Youth A ended Melksham Town Saints seventeen month unbeaten league and cup run. Trowbridge began as the stronger team and kept the Melksham keeper busy from the start. They were soon rewarded for their work when George Penny scored for Trowbridge but Melksham then really put them to the test and only some excellent defensive work by Trowbridge's Josh Howlett prevented Melksham from equalizing.
Under 13's Jack Goodenough Memorial Trophy
AFC Corsham took the lead through Harry Roberts after five minutes in their tie against Melksham Town Youth. Melksham brought the scores level mid way through the first half after neatly chipping the keeper. In a tight and well fought first half Melksham edged in front just before half time with a calm finish after the ball was played across the goal. Melksham were the stronger team in the second half but took twenty minutes to score again before securing the tie with a fourth. Corsham had chances late on but Melksham's keeper made two great saves.
Under 9s Yellow Division:
Chippenham Town Youth Blue and Trowbridge Town Youth E treated the watching crowd to an exciting display of football and with the many chances. Trowbridge took the lead after a break out from defence ending with Oliver Cooper finishing well. Chippenham equalized with a fine goal from Ben Berkley who struck a clean shot past the despairing reach of the goalkeeper. With the game finely balance Chippenham went searching for a goal but fine counter attacking from Trowbridge secured them the points with goals from Lyndon Williams and Callum Norris.
Under 9's Green Division
Home side Melksham Park and Trowbridge Wanderers A completed their first round of games with a closely fought contest. Both sides defended well in the first half despite the dire weather conditions. After the break Wanderers took the lead through Mattie Mantay before Andrew Berragan sealed the 2-0 victory.
Under 13's Green Division:
The bottom of the table clash between home side Bromham and Bradford Town saw Bromham come out on top after a closely fought first half. An even start to the game saw both sides cancel each other out leading to a 2-2 score line. After the break Bromham stepped up a gear scoring a further six to just two replies finishing 8-4 winners. Bromham saw hat tricks from Jordan Stafford and James House with Craig Askew adding two to their tally.
Under 9's Blue Division
FC Chippenham defended well when required in their 7-1 away win against local rivals Chippenham Town Youth White securing the points with a fine display of free flowing football. Daniel Billett was the lone scorer for Chippenham Town
Melksham Town Youth Saints earned a narrow 3-2 victory against second place Trowbridge Town Youth A. Kye Bush (2) and Eddie Bew scored for the Saints with Timmy Jones and Ashton Shanley (2) replying for Town.
