Town fans hail magazine sponsorship
Swindon Town fans have hailed the club's union with FourFourTwo - claiming the high-profile sponsorship deal proves how far the once-beleaguered Robins have come.
The revelation yesterday that the football magazine giants had signed a three-year deal with the County Ground outfit was met with excitement from supporters, as they continue to believe in a better future.
Just months ago every fan was fearing extinction as crippling debts continued to mount, but the 11th-hour emergence of chairman Andrew Fitton & Co has got them all enjoying their football again.
Paul Davis, spokesman for TRUSTSTFC, said: "This is very exciting news. I think the more we thought about it the bigger the smile got.
"First of all you think that is really good, then the implications sink in and you realise quite how significant the deal could be.
"It is an extremely clever move as well as being a good main sponsor. FourFourTwo is the leading football magazine and this is the opportunity for a real partnership with a sponsor."
Having cleared their debts last week, this latest announcement leaves Town fans looking at the prospect of a financially solid' football club for the first time in almost a decade.
"This shows how far the club have come over the past six months," said Davis. "Before Christmas there is no way FourFourTwo would have looked at a club in a mess like Swindon were.
"I don't imagine they have a massive affinity with Swindon. They were just looking for a good football club to attach their name to and amazingly that is us now.
"It is like being a proper football club again. I can only congratulate the board, especially Nick Watkins, on this deal and we are all looking forward again."
