1:48pm Friday 3rd February 2012 in STFC By Gary Rose
SWINDON Town have invested in a heated dome in an effort to defrost areas of the County Ground pitch and ensure tomorrow's game against Burton goes ahead.
The club have had covers on this week to prevent the pitch from freezing over but as temperatures continue to drop, they have opted to invest in further pitch protection.
"It is absolutely essential we do everything we can to get this game on," chief executive Nick Watkins said on the club's official website.
"The work we are doing today with the dome will also help for Tuesday night as well.
"We could have done one or two options that were slighty cheaper but risked not getting the result that way.
"Going this extra yard, with a little extra money, gives us that better chance for the game to go ahead.
"There is no guarantee it will be on at the end of the day but we are doing everything we can to get it on."

As far as I can see being arrogant goes with the territory for most premisership footballers so don't see why he should be any different. That whole league is a joke as far as I'm concerned, and whilst I'd love to see Swindon established in the second tier, I don't see getting to the prem as the be all and end all. Think we're best off out of it (just as well really!)

Seriously though, for a football club to be successful, I think the people running it have to be competent, well-intentioned, trustworthy and have reasonable financial clout. Until the current regime arrived, I'm not sure that I can remember when we had all four of those qualities at the Town at any one time. We have now. I think they have laid the ghosts of previous administrations, including the one that "purchased" the imaginary straw.

Some would say he (Ruddock) had an agreement with the club in the form of a contract. A contract still exists if a club are having difficulties and a player is entitled to what is on that contract. These disputes happen in business every day do they not? You have to blame whoever offered him the long contract and the reported 5k a week. He provided STFC fans a figure of hate to aim their anger at during a difficult time for the club. It is plain to see, despite all the bickering and difference of opinion, jovial banter and bordering on fully fledged arguments you see on these boards, that now is a time for all STFC fans to enjoy. I notice even fringe fans and those not massively in to football are all catching the positive energy around the club and this is what we need. For the hundreds or thousands that have become disillusioned with the club over many many years, those that maybe cannot afford to come to every game and those that have moved to pastures new - now is the time to unite and say we come as many but we leave as one - STFC.

Hope the game goes ahead tomorrow with the aid of the heated dome. Of course, some of us are old enough to remember when the Town played in basketball boots on several inches of snow and beat QPR 5-0. Reckon that must have been back in the 62/63 season when we roared on Bert Head's babes from the terraces at the Town End - oh and it was about 4/6d to get in ]22.5p] COYR!!

Great comments about Terry, but what does it have to do with if the game is on tomorow ? Perhaps the forum should be used for general chat and leave the comments section about individual stories for what it is meant for. MODERATOR sort it !! As im traveling from Dover tomorow i will be really peed if they leave the decision on the match to the last minute, please give me 4 hours notice , Ta !!
The other subject(terry) I,ve been at the county ground when a coloured player got the ball the crowd would do monkey chants, and someone threw a banana on the pitch.

Off subject, but was anyone at the game when a goalkeeper swung on the crossbar at the Stratton Bank about 40 years ago and the goal collapsed? Jim Montgomery of Sunderland maybe, but time plays tricks with memory, as some of us know, including me!!

Despite the icey conditions, 7,450 fans attended the game. I was only 12 at the time and I think it cost a shilling (5p) for juniors to get into first team games and sixpence (2.5p) for reserve games.yorkrobin wrote: Hope the game goes ahead tomorrow with the aid of the heated dome. O'Hara's antics would have been about 10 years earlier.
