REVENGE is not on Paolo Di Canio’s mind when Swindon host Burton at the County Ground tomorrow, but the Town boss still has some anger to vent for their defeat to the Brewers earlier in the season.
The Robins were beaten 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium back in September, days after picking up their first away win of the season at Crawley.
But since then, Town have gone from strength-to-strength and they will no doubt head into tomorrow’s game high on confidence following the superb 4-1 win at automatic promotion rivals Southend on Tuesday.
Tomorrow’s game represents the perfect chance for Town to exact revenge for their earlier defeat, but Di Canio was keen to stress that will not be the case and instead the focus is solely on collecting the three points and further cementing their place towards the top of League Two.
“We should never underestimate any team in this league and Burton are a team who have already hurt us this season, when we lost 2-0 at their ground,” he said.
“For the first half hour there it was our best performance in the league I would say because we created six or seven clear chances, but once they delivered the ball forward Justin Richards had the pace and Billy Kee scored with his chest.
“For this reason I still have a little anger, not against Burton but positive anger because it was from our mistake that we lost that game.
“Every team that we are going to play against now that in the previous game we lost to, then we will have a bit more desire of course.
“At the moment we don’t have this idea because we are above them in the league, but it can help for extra motivation.
“It is not like a Champions League final because we lost the last game to them but simply because we need to win.”
Swindon host Burton looking to make it six successive wins in League Two.
Paul Peschisolido’s side will not make life easy, though, with Burton sitting just outside the play-off places.
“It is good that we have won five games in a row and that is why we are second at the moment,” added Di Canio.
“It means we are in good form and we are consistent in our performances.
“The fact we won the last five games came from what we started building three months ago something very important.
“The last five games show that we deserve to be where we are and now we have to do everything we can to stay in this position.
“The next four, five and six games can have a big say on our future until the end of the season.”
The games are coming thick and fast at the moment and hot on the heels of the Burton clash is the second-leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final against Barnet.
Di Canio has been using the rotation system to great effect this season and he will likely need to call upon the full strength of his squad to give Town the best chance of collecting wins from the coming games.
“I am not worried to use the squad rotation system and in the last eight or nine games it proved the right decision,” he said.
“Obviously it was made easier for me because all the players have behaved very well, trained very well and they all have desire to play.
“At the moment I am thinking about the Burton game but I also have one eye on the Barnet game.”

.
That allows RDV and Connell to rest tomorrow and come in fresh on Tuesday
.
The arrival of Cox gives extra options in the middle too
.
Even with Flint out we still have options at the back with Boateng and Devera competing to partner Macca
.
LB has rotated all year so fine there
.
It's only "poor" old Ritchie and Caddis who will have to play 50+ - then again it's their own fault for beings so good :)
