THE PAOLO DI CANIO COLUMN: Handling pressure

The players have developed a great mentality in recent months, so I don’t see any of them feeling pressure.

I see them now playing very freely and with excitement. We are not a team who goes very close to the top and then start to falter. I don’t see that.

If we are going to lose a game in the next few games then that is because that can happen and not because they are worried.

We know that we will be close to the top until the end of the season.

We know that every direct battle with a promotion rival will be a Champions League final.

The first one we had was yesterday and it was the best performance and win we had this season, so that shows we do not feel the pressure in any way.

Have to agree - Tuesday I saw a team brimming with confidence and really enjoying their football from the start.
--
It was not complacency but hunger and real desire with confidence in their team mates as well as their own ability.
--
We've shown this a few times as going a goal down we don't panic and move up a gear and keep doing what we do best.
--
It is for this reason and this reason alone that I sat in the pub after the game grinning broadly and agreeing with an Arsenal and a Southend fan that we can win this league and prior to the last 2 or 3 games.

SAP, It's great to hear from your personal account at Southend we started and finished with confidence. i only hope we can now carry that form forward to the end of season and beyond. Too many games this season we have done the business in the first half (Hereford) or the second half, (Gillingham), but not consistently.

I am with you that we now have a very strong squad that are capable of maintaining a 90 minute assault, which is what we all want to see continuing our run with Burton on Saturday.
