DANNY Wilson admits he would have liked to sign Alex Revell on a permanent Town deal back in January, but will have no problems relegating the former loanee with current employers Wycombe tomorrow.
Swindon travel to Adams Park tomorrow to take on a Chairboys side who are fighting for their lives at the wrong end of League One, and they have given themselves a glimmer of hope in recent weeks with some impressive results, thanks partly to the goals of Revell.
The 26-year-old spent six months on loan at the County Ground earlier in the season, scoring two goals in 12 appearances, and Wilson explained that if finances hadn’t dictated otherwise, he would have snapped up the striker permanently.
“Alex picked some very important points up for us while he was here, and helped us get a great win at Brentford with two of his goals,” said the boss.
“Overall it was one of those unfortunate circumstances. We couldn’t keep him on loan until the end of the season, that was out of the equation.
“The only thing we were able to do was take over his contract completely, which the club weren’t prepared to do. We had other players who we needed to bring in and had to decide where the areas and our priorities were.
“So that option wasn’t given to us, but had it been then I would have likely taken him on. I would have kept him.
“Alex was fantastic for the team, I promise you. He was a great team player and I would have loved him to be available to us until the end of the season, but it just wasn’t an option.
“He has done very well in the last few games for Wycombe and has got four in two or something like that. He will be on top of his game against us.”
A Swindon victory and results elsewhere going against them could see Wycombe relegated back to the bottom tier tomorrow.
But Wilson will refuse to feel too much sorrow for counterpart Gary Waddock, and is instead focused on three points to reignite Town’s automatic promotion push.
“They could be relegated and it’s never nice if that happens, but that’s not my concern,” he said.
“We are going there to win the game and whatever happens up and down the country is more Wycombe’s concern than mine.
“You have a lot of sympathy with them, as I’m sure they would if we were in that position, but we are professional and you’ve got to go out there and give it everything to try and win the game.
“We won’t be taking them lightly as they can always be dangerous opponents, so we’ll be ready for the test. But they also have to be ready for us.”
Meanwhile, former Town boss Paul Sturrock has left his business support role at relegated Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle.
Sturrock, who has spent two spells at Home Park, was relieved of his managerial duties in December and moved into the new role, but has now departed the club.

I think (I hope) at least one of nouble or pericard will come good for us soon. They both need a goal, and its a pity the goal against exeter wasnt credited to pericard as he seemed to direct it in.
I think that I would rather have Alex Revell in the squad, rather than Vincent Pericard or Frank Nouble.
