VERSATILE midfielder Matt Taylor remains unsure what next season will bring him, although he admits to picking Phil Brown’s managerial brain.

Taylor, 36, was put in temporary charge of Swindon Town following David Flitcroft’s sudden departure at the start of March.

With one eye on a career in management, Taylor revealed his strong working relationship with new boss Brown – adding that he’s enjoyed learning from the experienced 58-year-old.

He said: “I’m enjoying working with the manager. He’s asked me a lot of questions, I think we work very well together and I’m really enjoying the extra responsibility. But it’s still Saturday that counts.

“For me, Phil (Brown) picking my brains has been a real positive for my development as I get older.

“There’s another side to football that I have very little experience of, and our manager has vast experience.

“While he’s been picking my brain, I’ve been picking his as well.”

Quizzed about his role within football next season, Taylor confirmed he’s still unsure.

“I don’t know yet,” added the ex-Premier League ace. “There are conversations to be had, and we’ll have those conversations.

“But right now I’m focussed on the games from now until the end of the season.”

Taylor’s adaptable style of play enabled Brown to field the former West Ham favourite on the right, opening the door for youngster Scott Twine to make his debut start for the first team on the left.

It’s not the first time Taylor has been asked to fill in a different area of the pitch this season, having played as left-back under David Flitcroft and in the centre of midfield against Crawley on Easter Monday.

Reflecting on the Yeovil draw, Taylor admitted Town were disappointed not to wrap up the three points after being in a winning position on two occasions.

He said: “We’ve digested it and we’ve got another big game, so we can’t rest on our laurels.

“It’s a little frustrating these didn’t come earlier in the season when we wanted to turn losses into draws. We’re disappointed with the four draws we’ve had, however we’re still unbeaten.”

One positive point from Tuesday’s draw was the debut of academy graduate Twine, who played for 87 minutes before being subbed off to a standing ovation.

While many Town fans were pleasantly pleased by the youngster’s impact on the game, Taylor admitted the teenager’s efforts weren’t a surprise to him.

“His performance didn’t surprise me and he didn’t surprise the manager either,” said Taylor.

“In training he’s been showing his quality on a regular basis, and he got his opportunity in the first team based on that. It was fully deserved.”
